Norm’s obit
There was a slight error in Norm’s Journal News obituary:
William “Norm” Bancroft, Jr. of South Salem, NY, died March 6, 2009, he was 69. Born in Queens, NY on April 29, 1939 the son of William and Elsie (Neuman) Bancroft. He was a graduate of White Plains High School and held a degree from Brown University. Mr. Bancroft served as a cartographer in the US Army during WWII, stationed in Africa. He worked for IBM as an Engineer for 27 years retiring in 1994, after his retirement he worked for Reader’s Digest. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann King. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Bancroft-Payne of Chappaqua, NY, his son Gregory Bancroft of Pawley’s Island, SC, his sister Barbara Cryan of Fayetteville, GA., and his grandchildren, Tristan, William and Madeline. Visiting hours Monday 6-9 PM at Beecher Funeral Home, Pleasantville, NY where funeral services will be held Tuesday 10 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory would be appreciated.
At 69 in 2009, he was a bit too young to have actually served in WWII.
