Yesterday, RPI alumnus Evan Kurtz (&#8217;74-&#8217;75) reached out to tell me he had found the Crinitoid [sic] in New Zealand at <a href=\"https:\/\/gibbsfarm.org.nz\/artwork\/two-rectangles-vertical-gyratory-up-v\/\">Gibbs Farm<\/a>. As I am pretty confident our Chrinitoid remains firmly anchored in Zurich, I did some googling.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the sculpture is similar&#8230;and apparently in a beautiful setting&#8230;this is not our Chrinitoid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gibbsfarm.org.nz\/artwork\/two-rectangles-vertical-gyratory-up-v\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/paynecentral.com\/chriniblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/image-1-1024x465.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-133\" srcset=\"https:\/\/paynecentral.com\/chriniblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/image-1-1024x465.png 1024w, https:\/\/paynecentral.com\/chriniblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/image-1-300x136.png 300w, https:\/\/paynecentral.com\/chriniblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/image-1-768x349.png 768w, https:\/\/paynecentral.com\/chriniblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/image-1-1536x697.png 1536w, https:\/\/paynecentral.com\/chriniblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/image-1.png 1916w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There were several variations of George Rickey&#8217;s &#8220;Two Rectangles, Vertical Gyratory Up&#8221;. This is variation &#8220;V&#8221; (5). The RPI sculpture was variation &#8220;III&#8221; (3). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a 1979 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KY5LYo46m_o\">video<\/a> by George Rickey highlighting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sculpturecenter.org\/oosi\/items\/show\/958\">variant IV<\/a> in Cincinnati, Ohio, he noted each panel was 20&#8242; long, 5&#8242; wide and 10&#8243; thick&#8230;each weighing about 1000 lbs. He went in to not a larger version was in Rotterdam&#8230;and a smaller one on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. The Chrinitoid&#8217;s measurements are 19&#8217;6&#8243; x 59&#8243; and it stands 35 feet tall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the variants I have found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sculptureinternationalrotterdam.nl\/en\/collection\/two-turning-vertical-rectangles-en\/\">Rotterdam<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/welt-der-form.net\/Zuerich\/Rickey-1972-Two_Rectangles_Vertical_Gyratory_up_III-337.html\">Zurich<\/a> (The Chrinitoid)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sculpturecenter.org\/oosi\/items\/show\/958\">Cincinatti<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Zealand (<a href=\"https:\/\/gibbsfarm.org.nz\/artwork\/two-rectangles-vertical-gyratory-up-v\/\">Gibb Farms<\/a>)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pleasanton, CA (see below)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: While googling for this post, I noted that the stock photo site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamy.com\/the-george-rickey-sculpture-titled-two-rectangles-vertical-gyratory-up-aka-the-chrinitoid-outside-an-ubs-office-building-on-stockerstrasse-in-zurich-zurich-is-by-far-the-biggest-city-in-switzerland-with-a-population-near-183-million-in-the-metropolitan-area-it-is-also-the-finacial-center-in-switzerland-the-union-bank-of-switzerland-is-a-prolific-sponsor-and-investor-in-art-and-is-the-owner-of-the-chrinitoid-image244780901.html\">Alamy.com<\/a> acknowledges the name &#8220;Chrinitoid&#8221;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgerickey.org\/art\/public-collection\">Rickey Foundation<\/a> site shows Variant V in Pleasanton, CA in 1987 at the Koll Company. The <a href=\"https:\/\/siris-artinventories.si.edu\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?&amp;profile=ariall&amp;source=~!siartinventories&amp;uri=full=3100001~!341748~!0\">Smithsonian<\/a> appears to agree.
